“Nishkama karma Yoga”- Best advice from Lord Krishna !!

Bhagavad Gita is the most influential source of wisdom that has motivated me a lot. Great National leaders and Indian thinkers like Shankaracharya, Madhava, and Tilak have written inspiring commentaries on Gita. People talk about the philosophies of Gita and use this in dealing with various problems in their lives.

What is so special in Bhagavad Gita? As you are aware of the battle of Kurukshetra- the Mahabharata, you must know about the great warrior Arjuna, who also got nervous about facing his relatives on the battlefield. He thought, “What to do?” The first thought was leaving the battlefield and going away as it could only save him from the sin of killing his own relatives. Lord Krishna advised him to fight and fulfill his duties. Lord Krishna then showed him the real truth of life- the only purpose of which is liberation. Liberation is the end (or ultimate purpose) of life. Liberation is necessary to come out of the cycle of birth and death.

How liberation is possible? It is possible by self-realization and actualization. Now how this self-realization is possible? It is by the disinterested performance of duties and selfless service to mankind. This is called Nishkama karma yoga.

In true essence, Nishkama karma yoga is performing one’s duties without any expectations for the rewards.

The Bhagavad Gita preaches the path of Karma (or Action). According to Gita, action is the soul force- it keeps us moving and maintains the order of the universe. Life itself is action. Lack of activity amounts to death.

The path of action is two-fold:
Performance of prescribed duties.
Performance of duties without any desire for reward.

Message for you all: On this festive occasion of Krishna Janmashtami, We wish you a very Happy Krishna Janmashtami! Do the right action and take full responsibility for it. Choose your life well and follow the advice of Lord Krishna, that is Nishkama karma yoga to live the best possible life.
