We live in a world filled with distractions, doubt, and demands. We often forget the quiet powers that can keep us steady. These powers are confidence, faith, and trust.
Let us begin with a powerful verse from the Dhammapada:
“Just as the strong wind has no hold upon a mighty rock, so Mara has no hold upon a man who does not live in pursuit of pleasure, who has good control of his senses, who knows how to moderate his appetite, who is endowed with unshakable faith and who wastes not his energies.”
These words remind us that real strength does not come from external success. It comes from inner mastery. It’s about being unmoved like a rock amidst the storms of life.
What Is Faith?
The Mother makes it clear:
“Faith is not belief in dogma or even in a religion. It is the certitude that whatever the difficulty, one is born for the realisation — and one will realise.”
This faith is not in the teaching. It is not even in the teacher. It is faith in your own inner truth and your divine possibility.
It’s what makes you say: “No matter what I face, I was born for something greater — and I will reach it.”
What is Confidence?
Sri Aurobindo defines faith as:
“The soul’s witness to something not yet manifested, but which it knows is true.”
But for that soul-force to move in life, we also need confidence — a deep, calm belief in one’s journey. Not the boastful type, but the grounded kind. The confidence to say:
“I may not have all the answers, but I will keep walking.”
The Mother encourages us:
“Be confident. You will become what you have to be and achieve what you have to do.”

What is Trust?
What is trust, then?
Trust is a sacred surrender — a resting in the knowledge that the Divine knows better than our limited minds.
“Whatever happens, I trust it is for my growth,” The Mother says.
Even when the path is unclear, trust whispers: “The Divine is guiding me — I will follow without fear.”
When the Path Is Difficult
Every seeker has moments of darkness — times of doubt, despair, even disbelief.
But Sri Aurobindo assures:
“Even a pale faith that rises again after each fall is real faith. The one who perseveres, even slowly, is marked out for success.”
We are not asked to be perfect — we are asked to persist.
Faith and Trust in Action
You give yourself entirely to the Divine — not for a result, but simply out of love. When you do this, life begins to change. A silent force starts working behind every event, even the painful ones.
“Give yourself, and then that’s all,” The Mother says. “Whatever happens will be the best possible thing for you.”
This kind of faith is total, and it creates space for divine action.
A Mantra for All Times
If you ever feel overwhelmed, repeat this inner mantra that Sri Aurobindo offered:
“I want the Divine and nothing else. I give myself completely. Whatever happens, I will continue with confidence. The Divine will lead me — in His own time, in His own way.”
This is not just a mantra of belief — it is a commitment to trust the process of your transformation.
Walk Forward with Confidence
In our spiritual journey and our everyday life, these three — faith, confidence, and trust — are our strongest companions.
Together, they form an unshakable core that resists fear, doubt, and despair.
So keep walking. Keep trusting. Keep your faith alive.
Because, as Sri Aurobindo reminds us:
“Even if there is much darkness, a ray of the true Light can prevail eventually against a tenfold darkness.”
Let that light live in you — continuous, bright, and full of grace.
